Inspired hats from Mostly Millinery

FINALLY got around to blocking two felts today. One a red felt for a girly-girl winter hat for a fashionable young lady; the other a print velour in cream and muted burgundy made on an altered hat block. Good to be back at creating again!

Inspired dyed today

Just finished dying two straw hat bodies. One, supposed to be a light brown minkish color, turned out to be a dark grape! The other, supposed to be sage green, came out a dark green! Still fun to do even with the randomness of the whole process!

Millinery in commercials

In the last two days, Inspired has seen two commercials with hats being worn by the women in them. Yesterday it was a Toyota commercial with two women wearing styles similar to those of the 1940s. Today it was a Subway restaurant commercial with a woman wearing a red cloche trimmed in black.

This is certainly encouraging to those of us who love hats!

Inspired mIllinery runner-up in hat competition

Mostly Millinery (aka Inspired) recently received notice that a hat she had made had won runner-up in the pattern division of a competition using felt fabric. The competition was sponsored by a millinery supply store (www.judithm.com) along with a manufacturer of felt fabric.

Her hat entry was inspired by an illustration on a sewing pattern envelope from the 1940s. The hat was sewn entirely by hand using felt fabric, was decorated with top stitching and beads, and lined in silk.

See www.mostlymillinery.com for more hats.

Mostly Hats by Mostly MIllinery

Inspired is please to report that the Women's Market at the Eiteljorg museum in Indianapolis went well. Several of my hats found new homes and will now be loved! Inspired creates the hats that go to homes where they are loved!

Also found a home for a sweet little girl hat. A doting grandmother bought it for her adorable granddaughter.

Hats, of course!

Inspired just finished viewing all episodes of "The House of Elliot". That period had such incredible fashions. And the hats! Amazing! Close-up camera views showed the detail and handwork involved in the hats. Hats to sigh for!

Silky Ribbon Embellishments

Inspired is busy making pretty embellishments out of silky ribbon. Such pretty colors to work with on a winter day! The embellishments can be worn as a corsage or used as an embellishment on a hat.

Mostly Inspired Millinery

Inspired has been blocking hats for summer and spring. Messy work, but fun! After the straw bodies are dry, then comes the work of stabilizing with wire and head size bands. But after that: the real fun of embellishment happens!

That's done!

Inspired has spent the better part of the last 4 weeks working on two hats made of flat felt for a contest co-sponsored by Judith M millinery supplier. The deadline for entry was today. The first hat was done about 2 weeks ago. The second hat was finished just under the entry deadline! What a nail-biting couple of weeks! It's going to be exciting to see what milliners have come up with for the contest. Hope that Judith posts lots of entry photos!

Now...on to making hats for Spring. Really looking forward to making some of the ideas I have for hats for young ladies!

Awesome hats

Reactions to custom hats never fails to amaze: Inspired wanted to look spiffy for a meeting this morning and wore a beret made a while back. On the way to the meeting,  made a stop at the bank and the gals loved the hat. Then on the way back from the meeting, Inspired grabbed a coffee at a drive-through and the youngish (probably late college) guy at the window said "awesome hat"! That's not the first time a college age male has commented favorably on my hats. That's intriguing since a female in the same age range as the guys wouldn't be caught dead wearing a nice hat. Maybe a ball cap, or if the weather insists on headwear, a ski type of cap.

hats

Hat production has slowed down! Have been working on a couple of special projects. Hope to get back on track this weekend!
